An oracle center active for over a millennium
The Ancient City of Klaros was an oracle center of Apollo, active from the 13th century BC to the 4th century AD. Located in the Ales valley, in today's Ahmetbeyli neighborhood, the city held an important religious position in the ancient world.
The Temple of Apollo and the Katagogeion
The city includes the Temple of Apollo, an altar, a propylon and a 20-room Katagogeion (guest lodging). The existence of the Katagogeion indicates that visitors coming to the city to consult the oracle stayed here.
A connection to Notion and Kolophon
Klaros was historically linked to the nearby cities of Notion and Kolophon; Notion functioned as a harbor city serving Klaros. These three cities today form a route that can be visited together.
A lesser-known archaeological site
