History
İzmir Agora was founded in the Hellenistic period. It was rebuilt with the support of Emperor Marcus Aurelius after the major earthquake of AD 178.
Excavations
Excavations at the agora have continued since 1932. The North and West Stoa and the Faustina Gate are among its notable remains.
