History
Ephesus traces its roots to around 6000 BC; the city itself was founded by Ionian colonists in the 10th century BC. Under Roman rule it became the capital of the province of Asia and one of the era's major ports and trading centers.
UNESCO World Heritage
Ephesus was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015. The Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre and Curetes Street are among its most recognized structures.
