History
Metropolis is an ancient city with continuous settlement from the Early Bronze Age to the Byzantine period. It lies at the foot of Mount Kocadiz, between the Yeniköy and Özbey neighborhoods.
Excavations
Excavations have continued at the site since 1989 (under Prof. Serdar Aybek since 2007). A theatre, bouleuterion, stoa, gymnasium and Roman baths have been uncovered.
