Route and Why This Order

This route combines the peninsula's ancient and coastal identity across Urla, Çeşme and Seferihisar districts; given the distances, it should be done by car as a full-day tour. It begins at the Ancient City of Klazomenai in Urla; known for its 6th-century-BC olive oil facilities, this Ionian city forms the day's historical opening. A short coastal break follows at the nearby Urla İskele Quarter, with its colorful fishing boats. From there the route continues to Çeşme Castle at the tip of the peninsula, completing the day's second historical stop with its in-castle archaeology museum. A lunch break among the stone houses of Alaçatı is followed by a short sea break at Ilıca Beach, resting the middle of the day. The route ends at the Ancient City of Teos in Seferihisar and the adjacent Sığacık Castle; after Teos, home to Anatolia's largest Temple of Dionysus, closing the day in Sığacık's Cittaslow atmosphere makes for a calm finale.

The total distance between stops is about 68 km; the route fills a full day, taking roughly 8-9 hours. Each stop is explored on foot internally; a car is needed for transfers between stops.

When to Go

Scheduling shadeless sites like Klazomenai and Teos for morning and late afternoon is the way to avoid midday heat. Timing the Ilıca Beach break for the hottest part of the day offers a natural cooling opportunity.
