Route and Why This Order

This route combines Foça's ancient-historic fabric with the untouched nature of the Karaburun peninsula; given the distances, it should be done by car as a full-day tour. It begins at Foça Castle, known for its five arched gates, forming the day's historical opening as this Genoese-Ottoman fortress. Right after, the route continues to the Ancient Theatre of Phokaia, built in the 340s BC — not to be confused with the modern open-air theatre in the castle courtyard, this is one of the oldest known theatres in Anatolia. A short harbor break follows at the Old Foça Fishing Shelter, before heading south into the second half of the day, to the Karaburun peninsula. Küçükbahçe and Mordoğan Coast are planned back to back as they showcase the peninsula's quiet village character. The route ends at Sarpıncık Lighthouse, active since 1938 — closing the day at the very tip of the peninsula, where sea meets land, provides a natural finale.

Duration, Distance and Transport

The total distance between stops is about 52 km; the route takes roughly 7-8 hours in a single day. The three stops within Foça are within walking distance of each other; a car is needed for the transfer to Karaburun and between the peninsula's stops.

When to Go

Scheduling the Foça stops for the morning leaves the rest of the day comfortable for the drive to Karaburun. Timing Sarpıncık Lighthouse for near sunset gives the route its most striking closing light.
